Grant Campanelli—Tendo’s Manager of Software Engineering—grew up in Orange County, CA. With both of his parents working in the hotel industry and unsure of what career path he wanted to take, Grant ended up at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo studying computer science. (Grant’s grandmother lives in San Luis Obispo, his parents met and married there, and his brother graduated with him—it was definitely a family affair.)
He moved to the Bay Area when he got a job at Workday, where he interned. Grant moved down to San Diego, a week before the pandemic shut everything down. He now lives in San Diego and is happy to spend time at the beach and the breweries there. Grant has been at Tendo for less than a year and has since filled his team of five developers in San Diego, our unofficial fourth hub city.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Working alongside other motivated individuals with a common goal to make healthcare more user-friendly.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Early bird!
What was your first job?
I had a business filming weddings and making websites for small businesses before joining Workday as my first career-oriented job.
If you could snap your fingers and become an expert at something, what would it be?
I would love to be an expert surfer. I live a block from the beach in San Diego so it feels like a crime that I don’t get out there every day.
Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
I love to cook. I am an expert on the grill and love having people over. When the weather permits, I love to rent a sailboat in Mission Bay with friends and enjoy the sunset.
What’s your most used emoji?
and I have my colleague, Eric Tannahill, to thank for that.
If you could only have three apps on your phone, which would you pick?
ESPN, Spotify, and Ikon (shoutout to Kevin Brice).
What’s one thing you’ve learned since joining the Tendo team?
There is room for disruption in the healthcare technology industry, and our all-star team is perfectly equipped to take on the challenge.
What’s the top destination on your must-visit list?
My favorite thing to do is travel. I would love to make it to Japan when things open back up. My father went there as an exchange student when he was 16, and I also would like to ski at Niseko. My parents threw me on skis before I could walk.
A few more things about yourself?
You can find me at a concert at least once a month. Odesza is still top of my list, but I had a hard time choosing between Coachella and Stagecoach because I also am a big country music fan. I grew up an Angels Baseball fan, but as a San Diego resident, I have become a Padres fan and try to make it to as many games as I can. In November, you will see me rock a strong mustache in support of Movember.
We’re so grateful to have Grant on our all-star team, and we’re always happy to get his latest recommendation on the best concerts. If you’d like to work with Grant (and many other all-stars like him), check out our open roles and apply for your new job today!
