Happy birthday to us!

by | Nov 2, 2021

It’s been a big year at Tendo, and we’re simultaneously celebrating our last 365 days and looking forward to all the excitement yet to come.

The birth of a startup

Startups are born every day, and although we may be (read: definitely are) biased, we think this startup is pretty special. We began a little differently than most others. Instead of jumping right into building a company and a product, we decided to first learn about what patients, clinicians, caregivers, and others associated with the healthcare industry really wanted.

The listening tour

At one point or another, we have all experienced frustration with our healthcare experiences. As a patient, it might be filling out the same forms over and over again as we check into our appointments. As clinicians, that moment may come with the realization that we are spending more time in front of a screen and less face-to-face time with patients. As a caregiver, it could happen when we are hundreds—or even thousands—of miles away from our loved ones trying to support their care without the ability to easily access their schedule or records.

To find out what patients, clinicians, and caregivers really need, we talked to over 60 health systems and conducted 100s of interviews. We listened to the stories of those in the trenches. During these interviews, we asked many different questions. What did patients experience when they tried to schedule an appointment? How did caregivers navigate the healthcare system for their loved ones? What did clinicians wish they could do differently?

Understanding the most pressing needs

What we learned is that healthcare technology is at an inflection point. People are increasingly used to streamlined experiences in nearly every aspect of their daily lives—and they are looking for the same type of simple and consumer-driven experience when it comes to their healthcare.

They want easy navigation and seamless solutions that proactively support them throughout the care journey. From finding a provider, to scheduling an appointment, to preparing for and receiving care, to all the follow-up activities that come as a result of that care, patients are craving a truly collaborative approach to their healthcare, one that focuses both on treating illness and empowering well-being.

Powering a comprehensive, proactive, and personalized plan

At Tendo, we are on a mission to become the trusted connection between patients, clinicians, and caregivers by creating software that provides seamless, intuitive, and user-friendly experiences throughout the care journey.

In our first year, we worked tirelessly toward that goal by:

  • Continuing to listen and learn from patients, clinicians, and caregivers through structured interviews and observation
  • Working with Jefferson Health and Health First (our Foundational Customers) to create new solutions to support frictionless patient experiences that are deeply integrated with existing healthcare information
  • Completing our Series A and B in rapid succession to ensure fiscal sustainability
  • Growing to nearly 100 talented employees with a wide variety of experiences who believe strongly in our mission to help patients, clinicians, and caregivers

And we’re just beginning.

Looking forward

With the momentum we gained in our first year, Tendo is poised and ready to continue listening and learning; to continue building a strong team that operates with urgency and empathy; and to work in tandem with partners, stakeholders, collaborators, and colleagues to deliver new and exciting solutions to the healthcare industry.
